Makeup confessions

makeup 2

I love makeup…always have, always will.  It’s not like I wear a ton of it, I just think it’s fun to buy and wear.  At places like Sephora and Ulta, everything is just so pretty and fun…it makes me happy!

So after putting the best foods into my body to nourish my skin, and cleansing, toning and moisturizing with products so pure you could eat them, I’m not being that careful about what I put on after that.

For example, mascara.  I love long lashes, and can’t stand smudging.  I actually layer two (probably very toxic!) mascaras to get the look I want.  I start off with a Maybelline water proof mascara as a base, then put several coats of Urban Decay Perversion on top.  (I got sucked in by their tagline…”Bigger, badder, blacker”…seriously the darkest and most amazing stuff I have ever used!!!)

When I wear eyeliner, which depends on my mood, I actually use a brow pencil from IT cosmetics.   The color is perfect and it stays on all day.  But have I ever looked up the ingredients?  Um, no… 😦

With blush, I’m a little better.  I use a powder blush from Tarte, which is supposed to be a more pure line.  I love the color and the staying powder.

I have tried many different foundations over the years, but always come back to Bare Minerals.  I think their original powder foundation is decent, but lately I’ve been using the pressed foundation for the convenience (as in, not getting that stupid powder all over my white bathroom counter!)  Have I ever looked at the ingredients?  Again, um, no.

And on my lips?  Sometimes I use something decent like Burt’s Bees.  But I can’t stay away from the Urban Decay 24/7 lip liner.  Not only does it stay on forever, the names of the colors just draw me in.  My current fave is called Turn On.

So here’s what I am planning to do…I am going to get better about reading the ingredients in my makeup.  I’m going to start trying some other (less toxic) options.  And I’ll report back.  Right now my makeup makes me feel happy.  And hot.  But I’m not so sure that it’s healthy!
