Baby, it’s cold outside!

That song actually gets on my nerves.  There are way too many versions of it.  It needs a rest.

But it is legitimately cold outside here in Central PA.  We’ve had flurries off and on for days, and it’s rare to see the sun.  Since I always look for the silver lining, it’s a great opportunity to rock a beanie.

Bundled up to get my pastured eggs!

But when it’s this cold, it can be a little harder to feel happy, healthy and hot.

As soon as the temperature begins to drop, I feel totally dry.

The minute I hop out of the shower I slather myself with some kind of moisturizer.  Plain old coconut oil (the same kind you use in the kitchen) is awesome.  I also love the Coconut Body Oil by Annmarie Skincare.  And the Vanilla Bean Whipped Body Butter from 100% Pure.  It totally does the trick, and as a bonus you will smell like a baked good!

If you use a dry brush before you hop in the shower, whatever you are using to moisturize will work even better, since dry brushing helps to exfoliate.  Some people claim it helps with cellulite.  You’re also stimulating your lymphatic system, which removes toxins from your body.  Total win-win!

Another little trick is to keep hand cream in your purse or car, and get in the habit of putting it on every time you go out.  I am loving the Vanilla Bean Hand Cream from  100% Pure.  It smells good enough to eat.

Good skincare is so important this time of year.  My nighttime routine is very simple…I oil cleanse with coconut oil, then pat on Alpine Pure Oil from Telluride Glow.  (Use the code “happyhealthyandhot” for 10% off.)  Love this stuff!

I’ve also switched from a powder to a cream foundation, which gave me an instant pick me up.  I’m using the Fruit Pigmented Cream Foundation from 100% Pure, which I raved about in a recent post.

And when you come in from the cold, there’s nothing like a warm drink to take the chill off!  Hot tea or warm lemon water are always good.  Or support your skin, hair and nails and blend some collagen peptides and coconut oil into your coffee like I do every day.

Here are a few other ideas for warm drinks:

Peppermint mocha sounded tempting to me…

coffee + matcha + cacao =

Sometimes I think this whole pumpkin spice thing is out of control…

So, can following these tips help you feel happy, healthy and hot on a cold winter day?  Absolutely!

Taking care of your skin before you venture out into the cold, and having a warm drink when you come in will make you very happy.  Using natural skin care and drinking something warm that’s also loaded with antioxidants, collagen and healthy fats will keep you healthy.  And with that firm, glowing skin you’ll be hot for sure!
