I slept in a bit (more on that later), made myself some lemon water and walked KO. When I came inside I brewed coffee in my French press, and blended it with coconut oil and collagen peptides, then sat down and enjoyed some quiet time.
In other words, pretty much what I do every day..
And that’s what I want to get across…
just because it’s the start of a new year doesn’t mean you have to turn your life upside down.
Instead, try adding one new healthy habit. Something that you’ll actually do.
Maybe it’s starting each day with fresh lemon water. This is so easy! My 104 year old grandmother swears by fresh lemon…think she is on to something.
We all know lemons contain vitamin C. But you may not know that the vitamin C actually helps your skin produce collagen, which is what keeps it firm and youthful. That’s what we’re all going for, right?
The vitamin C in fresh lemon juice also supports our immune system and cardiovascular health. And there is something that I find very energizing about even the scent of lemon. I also believe that if you start your day intentionally doing something that is good for you, you tend to make better choices throughout the day.
Or you could add more greens to your diet. My favorite way to do this is by blending a green drink first thing in the morning. Greens are a great source of vitamins, minerals and fiber and they are awesome for your skin. I find consuming plenty of leafy greens even helps me with cravings for sweets. I like to blend fresh greens in my Vitamix each day (usually with lemon and ginger) but I keep Collagen Beauty Greens on hand for the days that I don’t have something fresh in the fridge. I just throw a scoop in a glass of water, stir, and drink.
Another one that is super easy and gets results is to add collagen to your diet on a daily basis. If it seems like I’m always talking about the benefits of collagen, it’s because it has improved my skin dramatically, and it’s awesome for your hair, nails and connective tissue. I blend collagen peptides into my coffee, but sometimes I also eat Primal Kitchen bars, which are delicious and contain collagen.
Another idea would be to try a new healthy recipe each week. Even better if you make things that give you leftovers for lunch the next day! Lots of ideas here on happy, healthy and hot.
Or maybe you’re doing great in the food department…try switching out some of your personal care items. Annmarie Skincare is awesome for natural and extremely effective cleansers, serums and moisturizers. And I love Alpine Pure Oil from Telluride Glow…great all purpose beauty product.
In my case, the habit I am going to work on in 2017 is sleep. As in, getting more of it. I already wear orange goggles (most of the time) and wear a sleep mask, both of which improve the quality of my sleep. I need help with quantity.
So now I’m learning to let myself sleep in a bit when I can, and I’m working on going to bed as early as possible, even if it means I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to. I know that ultimately I’ll be more productive, focused and energetic when I am getting sleep my body needs.
Here are some posts I’ve written on sleep in the past if you are looking for tips:
Some things are hard to come by…
silk + oil + jade =
So don’t make yourself crazy…try starting with some small changes, and gradually build on them. I know some of you are interested in losing weight in 2017, so I’m working on a post right now.
Can making little changes, like drinking lemon water or getting more sleep help you feel happy, healthy and hot? For sure!
You will be happy because you are doing something for yourself. All of the changes I have mentioned help you stay healthy. And those same habits that support your overall health keep you looking your best. Everything I have mentioned supports healthy skin, hair and nails and maintaining or losing weight…so it goes without saying that you will be very hot!
I’d love to hear the healthy habit you are focusing on in 2017. Happy New Year!

I totally agree. I’m not usually one for New Year’s resolutions, but last year I had a nasty chest infection and needed a healthy kick up the backside in January! I did an online small changes on a parenting forum, one change each week over a lot of last year. I definitely respond well to baby steps. This year, I am just continuing to make small, healthy steps. I think it’s the best way to form lasting habits.

So proud of you Tanya! And I love the idea of making a small change each week. All those small changes really start to add up!

Oh, thank you, that’s really kind. I think it was based on a book, the first change was sleep. It took me so much more than a week to sort this one, tbh, I think it’s always something I will find challenging! The other thing for me is yoga, I am doing the Yoga Revolution this month, it really got me to exercise everyday.
