Dark, rich and satisfying…

May 12, 2016

crio bru eliz

what more could a girl want?  I’m talking about Crio Bru.  This stuff is like a dream come true for a health conscious chocolate lover like me.

So what is Crio Bru?

Crio Bru is made from fair trade cocoa beans that are roasted, ground and brewed like coffee.  It is rich in magnesium, zinc and other minerals. The theobromine found in cocoa is a natural appetite suppressant.  It is also a gentle stimulant, giving a mild lift without caffeine jitters.  (Crio Bru contains less caffeine than decaf coffee.)

I have not seen Crio Bru in any stores locally.  I ordered from amazon, and as soon as I realized how amazing it was I put it in my amazon store.  There are several different roasts…I ordered Ghana French Roast.  I’m sure they are all good…it’s hard to go wrong with chocolate.

According to the Crio Bru website, the best way to brew it is with a French press.  To extract the full flavor, think hotter water, longer brewing time.  I have been bringing the water to a boil, and letting it steep about 10 minutes.  And if you missed it a few days ago, I wrote a whole post on the French press called I’ve been cheating on my Keurig….

You could also use a classic drip coffeemaker.  Since I haven’t had one of those in ages, I didn’t try it.  But apparently it works.

Of course, I had to try serving Crio Bru all different ways.  First I tried it black, and the taste was like a chocolatey coffee.  There is nothing sweet about it, but you definitely pick up a chocolate flavor.

Next, I tried it lightly sweetened with my favorite vanilla liquid stevia. Delicious!   I also tried it sweetened, with a splash of cashew milk (of course, you could use anything you like…coconut milk, half and half, whatever.)

And of course I had to try it in the classic happy, healthy and hot style…blended with coconut oil, liquid stevia and Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. And it was pretty amazing!

If you want an actual recipe, here’s what I did:

Happy, healthy and hot Crio Bru

1/4 cup Crio Bru ground cacao beans

12 ounces water

2 tablespoons coconut oil

1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

Liquid stevia to taste

Measure Crio Bru into a French press.  Bring water to a boil and pour over the grounds then stir.  Let steep for about 10 minutes, then plunge the French press.  Pour brewed liquid carefully into blender, then add coconut oil and stevia.  Blend on high until frothy, then turn down to low and add collagen.

Makes one BIG serving (that’s the way I like it!) or two smaller ones.  Enjoy!

Another way I have been enjoying Crio Bru is to add it to my coffee to make it half caf.  So instead of brewing half regular and half decaf coffee in my French press in the morning, I’ve been using half regular coffee and half Crio Bru.  Such a treat!!!

Of course, you could serve this iced as well.  If it ever gets warm here in Central PA I will give that a shot.  In the meantime I am enjoying my Crio Bru piping hot!

So of course you need to know…can Crio Bru help you feel happy, healthy and hot?  Why yes, it can!  If you enjoy dark, rich chocolate flavor, it will make you very happy.  The magnesium, zinc and other minerals support your health in many ways.  And if you are making it my favorite way, with collagen peptides and coconut oil, you’ll be very hot with your beautiful skin, nails and hair!

This appears to be healthier and tastier than the Bulletproof coffee concoction Elizabeth. As a chocoholic (remarkably I have the discipline to only eat one or two small squares of 88% dark chocolate daily) I approve your message!

Hey George, thanks for checking in! I’m with you…1 or 2 squares a day (usually 2🙂) of a good dark chocolate. I usually do the Lindt 90% bars because they are easy to find. And I really love this Crio Bru…can’t believe it took me so long to try it!

[…] A few more tips…stop eating a few hours before bed.  If I need a little “something” I’ll have a cup of herbal tea, or maybe brew some Crio Bru.  (Here’s the post I did on Crio Bru:  Dark, rich and satisfying…) […]
