Have you ever wanted to dive headfirst into a bag of chocolate chips?

December 15, 2015

I was having one of those days.  I’ve been skimping on sleep lately, which throws everything off.  It was late afternoon on a grey December day, and I wanted a treat.

Instead of ripping into the bag of Nestle chips, here’s what I made myself:

cafe mocha

Not sure what to call it…let’s say Cafe Mocha…that sounds appealing!

I used my French press to brew a generous cup of decaf.  (Had it been earlier in the day you can bet I would have had some caffeine!)  I threw it in my Vitamix.  I love my Vitamix, but you can use any blender for something like this.  I poured in about a 1/4 cup of coconut milk.  This is the thick, creamy coconut milk that comes in a can.  It’s full of healthy fats that are good for your skin and hair and even your cell membranes. To take care of my chocolate craving I added about a teaspoon of raw cacao powder.  This is high in antioxidants, iron and magnesium.  If you don’t have it, regular unsweetened cocoa powder tastes great and has similar nutritional benefits.  I sweetened it with liquid vanilla stevia.  Nunaturals is the only brand that tastes good to me.  Absolutely no bitter taste.

I blended all of this until it was frothy.  And then of course I had to add a scoop of collagen powder.  Can’t live without this stuff!  If you are new to this blog, read I used to have terrible skin (part 2).  This explains why I am so crazy about collagen.  In a nutshell, it’s amazing for your skin, nails, hair, and all the connective tissues in your body.

And there you have it!  Chocolate craving completely satisfied, while giving my body nutrients it truly needs.

So can a Cafe Mocha make you feel happy, healthy and hot?  Well, in my world, chocolate + coffee = happiness:)  Unlike most chocolate drinks, this one is full of healthy fats, antioxidants, magnesium, and some amino acids that your body typically doesn’t get enough of.  So that should make you feel healthy.  And the beautiful firm, glowing skin and strong nails from the healthy fat and the collagen?  Very hot!

Ooo! I’ve been wanting to try the vanilla stevia, but have been scared to because all the other liquid stevias I’ve tried have been horrible. They are expensive and I’ve wasted a bunch of money on those yucky ones so it made me not even want to try any more. I am so excited to get it now! Thank you!

Kelly, I can’t tell you how many bottles of stevia I have thrown away. NuNaturals is the only brand I like the taste of. I have the peppermint also. It’s good but I use the vanilla all the time!

I add collagen, ghee, and oil as well to my coffee. Usually I’ll add raw honey and cinnamon, but on the days I want a mocha, I’ll add Lovebean fudge. Great stuff!

Vicki, I haven’t heard of Lovebean fudge…now I’m intrigued! I add cinnamon sometimes too. It’s fun to mix it up! Thanks for checking in!

[…] There are many days (like yesterday!) where I satisfy my chocolate craving while improving my skin, hair and nails with collagen.  I do this by adding some cocoa powder (or raw cacao powder, even better) to coffee, and blend with coconut oil, Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, and some NuNaturals liquid vanilla stevia.  (Please note, this is the only brand of stevia that I actually like the taste of.)  So easy and good!  Here’s an early post I did on this: Have you ever wanted to dive headfirst into a bag of chocolate chips?
