to avoid that late afternoon slump
It happen to us all…especially on these grey days in early Spring.
Your day gets off to a great start and you’re plugging right along. Until suddenly you hit a wall around 3:30 or 4 and want a nap, a giant piece of chocolate or a sugary drink from Starbucks or DD.
Or maybe all of the above.
But there’s a way around this. Here are some of my favorite tips to avoid that afternoon slump and have an amazing day:
GET OUTSIDE
Just getting out in the fresh air can make a world of difference. Whether it’s a walk with a friend, sitting outside to eat lunch, or just a stroll to the mailbox, it will help. Getting natural light during the day actually helps us sleep better at night (leading to more energy the next day!)
FAT + PROTEIN = STEADY ENERGY
Relying on carbs (especially the more processed ones) can result in blood sugar ups and downs. Make sure your meals contain enough quality fat and protein to keep you satiated. Check out my Instagram page @happyhealthyandhot_elizabeth for meal ideas. I post what I am eating almost every day in my stories.
BOUNCE
One of my favorite ways to get a little boost of energy any time of day is to bounce on my mini trampoline. Just a few minutes (think one or two songs!) is enough to energize me and put a giant smile on my face. I have my bed on risers and slide it under the bed when I’m not using it.
CHANGE THE SCENE
So many of us are working from home right now and it can get a little ho-hum. A change of scenery can provide some needed stimulation, whether it’s spending the afternoon with your laptop in a local coffee shop (and supporting a small business) or something as simple as working in a different area of your own home.
CONSCIOUS CAFFEINATION
Caffeine can be a slippery slope. It might power you through your afternoon of zoom calls but then keep you up at night. I thoroughly enjoy my coffee in the morning but don’t consume much caffeine after noon so that I can sleep at night.
For several years now I’ve suggested matcha or Four Sigmatic coffee for an afternoon treat. They have less caffeine that a regular cup of coffee but still give a little boost.
And I just discovered a new little treat that can have the same effect…
These little bars contain 65 milligrams of caffeine (the equivalent of a shot of espresso) and only 90 calories. They’re also gluten free, dairy free and vegan. And total yum. The vanilla latte is my favorite flavor.
If you go through my link you can grab a 16 bar sampler pack for only $12 (regularly $25)

Hope your day is amazing and full of energy!
