Where can you make some upgrades in your life?

I’ve told this story several times on Instagram, and felt called to share it here. Even though it’s not my typical blog post, with a recipe or health tip.

It’s a little story about some bath towels. But it’s about much more than that.

Almost four years ago I filed for divorce. I moved into a rental townhouse, bringing very little with me except my Vitamix and favorite knife (not kidding.) I gladly accepted hand me down towels and bedding from some family members and kitchen items from my grandmother’s house since she had just been moved into a nursing home. I had three wooden chairs from a close friend and a table that had been gathering dust in my sister’s attic.

All of which I was extremely grateful for.

And for a long time, that stuff got me by. Until it started holding me back.

As I started getting my shit together, I realized that things like frayed and worn out towels reminded me of the frightened girl that I had been, and not the confident woman I was becoming.

So I ran to Target (my second home) and loaded up on a bunch of fresh, bright white towels. The old ones got donated to an animal shelter. Win-win all around.

Those white towels made me feel so much better. Symbolic of a fresh start. Even though they weren’t the greatest towels. (I love Target, but these were on sale for $3 for a bath towel, which should tell you something about the quality.)

And then I spent a few nights at a five star hotel…something that I hadn’t done in quite awhile.  Very high vibe.

And suddenly those Target towels weren’t doing it for me.

So I hopped on Amazon and searched hotel quality towels. Boom, done. And at my door in two days.

Because why not feel like you’re at a five star hotel every time you take a shower? Am I right?

It’s not about the towels. It’s about how they make you feel.

If you’ve read this far, I hope this inspires you to look for an area where you could use a little upgrade. And then just do it.

It doesn’t have to be towels.

Maybe you get rid of those stretched out bras that aren’t doing anything for you (you know you have them somewhere.) Or the mis-matched socks.

Or perhaps it’s something bigger, like treating yourself to a bag that makes you feel like a million bucks every time you carry it.

It’s amazing what a difference it can make. I find that every time I make an upgrade, it has a ripple effect to other areas of my life.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

p.s. When I first posted this on Instagram I was flooded with messages asking about the towels. Here they are:

If that’s the case, I’d love for you to check out my new video series, badass body confidence.

This series of five short (10-15 minute) videos can change you life. I sincerely believe that. For just $7. Total no-brainer.
