is harder than finding the perfect pair (of shoes!)
Pears are like avocados…for days they are too hard, then there’s this brief window of opportunity when they’re perfect, then next thing you know they’re all bruised and mushy.
It’s way easier to find the perfect pair…these nude platforms are pretty amazing!
But back to pears….
Pears are a great source of vitamin C , copper and fiber. Vitamin C and copper are both important for healthy skin. Speaking of skin, you definitely want to eat the skin of a pear…it is loaded with phytonutrients, including some that may be effective in preventing cancer.
Pears are also just a great seasonal fall flavor…after the berries and stone fruit of summer and before we really get into citrus season.
Oh, and my best advice for finding the perfect pear? Buy them before they are ripe and keep them out on the counter. Monitor them closely…I check them morning and night. The second they soften up a little bit, pop those bad boys in the fridge where they’ll easily keep for a few days. Don’t wait…they turn to mush very quickly!
I love to use pears in a salad…one of my favorite combos is arugula, diced pear and walnuts drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. It’s a great mix of sweet and spicy, and the walnuts are a nice grain free substitute for the crunch of croutons.
The arugula is high in calcium and iron and loaded with antioxidants. The spicy kick is a great contrast for the sweetness of the pear.
Walnuts are high in vitamin B6 as well as iron and magnesium. They’re also a good source of protein, healthy fat and fiber.
I used to make my own balsamic vinaigrette, but now I just use the one from Primal Kitchen Foods. Love that it’s made with avocado oil….most of the salad dressings (even the “natural” ones) in the grocery store are loaded with crappy processed seed oils. Or just drizzle your salad with some balsamic vinegar and high quality olive oil.
No real recipe needed here…this is what I do for one serving:
Put a handful or two of arugula on a small plate. Top with half of a diced pear and sprinkle with walnut halves. Drizzle with balsamic vinaigrette. Enjoy!
Can this salad help you feel happy, heathy and hot? Hell yeah!
You’ll be happy eating a delicious salad made with healthy ingredients. Eating foods like this that contain quality protein, healthy fat and antioxidants supports gorgeous skin and a fit body…very hot!
