This recipe is primal/paleo/keto friendly and nice to put out on a tray of holiday treats (healthy or otherwise). Or you could just keep it all to yourself…I won’t tell!
Of course playing in the kitchen has to involve music…since it’s December I’m starting to enjoy some old holiday faves…like “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses (love that they used it in the Bad Moms Christmas movie!) and “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey. Say what you like about Mariah…that song always makes me smile!
But back to this treat that tastes great and can help you look and feel amazing…here’s what I used:
Raw cacao butter is a vegetable fat that comes from cocoa beans. Unlike other vegetable fats, it is solid at room temperature because it is a saturated fat. Don’t let that scare you off. Our cell membranes are composed mainly of saturated fat. This is the same stuff (called cocoa butter when it’s more refined) used in some skin care products. You can order it from Thrive Market or find it at better grocery stores like Whole Foods or the natural section at Wegmans.
Vanilla Coconut Collagen Fuel from Primal Kitchen Foods adds collagen protein and great taste without added sugar. The collagen supports firm skin, healthy connective tissue, and even weight loss. This stuff is designed to be used as a shake but I have been finding all kinds of other uses for it.
Super dark chocolate, like the Lindt 90% Cocoa bar that I used, is high in antioxidants and low in sugar. The bittersweet taste contrasts nicely with the sweeter white chocolate part.
For toppings, I used raw cacao nibs, shredded unsweetened coconut, and freeze dried strawberries. Just like dark chocolate, the raw cacao nibs are loaded with antioxidants. They are not sweet, but add a nice chocolate flavor and crunch. The coconut adds flavor, texture and more healthy fat. I added the freeze dried strawberries mainly for color…my first batch made without them looked a little dreary! Just don’t go overboard with dried fruit as it adds sugar.

one cup raw cacao butter
three quarters of a cup Primal Kitchen Vanilla Coconut Collagen Fuel
one 3.5 ounce Lindt 90% cocoa bar (or similar)
toppings…raw cacao nibs, unsweetened dried coconut, freeze dried strawberries
Melt the cacao butter on very low heat. Mine was in big chunks, so I just estimated one cup. When it was melted, I measured out one cup and poured into a bowl, then stirred in the Collagen Fuel until completely combined.
While cacao butter is melting, cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. I used a jelly roll pan…it doesn’t need to be too big.
When cacao butter and Collagen Fuel are combined, pour onto parchment covered baking sheet and carefully place in fridge for five to ten minutes.
While it’s in the fridge, melt the dark chocolate bar on very low heat. Remove baking sheet from fridge and carefully drizzle the chocolate on top. Return to fridge for another five minutes.
After five minutes (gives it time to firm up but not solidify) pull the baking sheet out and sprinkle your toppings on. You don’t need much…I used about a tablespoon of the raw cacao, and two tablespoons of the coconut. The freeze dried strawberries add a nice color and sweet/tart taste, but don’t go crazy on dried fruit since that’s adding sugar. You can totally get creative here. Nuts would be nice too.
Put back in the fridge until solid, then break into chunks. I’ve been storing mine in the fridge, but it totally holds at room temp.
