Use vitamin C inside and out!
According to the Linus Pauling Institute “the antioxidant properties of vitamin C and its role in collagen synthesis make vitamin C a vital molecule for skin health. Dietary and topical vitamin C have beneficial effects on skin cells, and some studies have shown that vitamin C may help prevent and treat UV-induced photo damage.”
Or to put it in my words, vitamin C can help you feel happy, healthy and hot because it gives you firmer, brighter skin.
Vitamin C can even help undo the damage from the days you spent sunbathing on a reflective blanket slathered in baby oil back in the ’80s. While listening to Madonna and Duran Duran on your giant Sony Walkman.
So what’s the best strategy for getting gorgeous skin from vitamin C?
I truly believe that good skin starts with what we are putting into our bodies, and then it can get even better with what we’re using on the outside.
Vitamin C is readily available in fresh produce. Some great sources are citrus fruit, strawberries, red bell peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts and kale. These are all foods we should be eating anyway!
Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, so it is not easily stored. You need to be consuming it daily.
Starting your day with a half of a lemon squeezed into water is great. I have a green drink every morning as well. I make this in the blender with fresh greens, or just use Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Greens if I am in a hurry. Either way, it’s another boost of vitamin C. A salad with more fresh greens, broccoli with your dinner and some fresh berries and you’re in good shape!
With topical products, it’s important to find those that have a clean ingredient list and are effective. Here are some of my personal faves…these are products that I actually use!
Annmarie Skincare is one of my favorite lines. Their products are extremely clean and effective. Two of their serums are high in vitamin C and very effective.
The Citrus Stem Cell Serum (formerly called Repair Serum) is designed to tone, firm and brighten. I use and love this…I apply to clean skin in the am. It absorbs immediately and feels wonderful.
Another wonderful serum from Annmarie Skincare is the Wild Fruit Serum. This one is pricier, but blends the benefits of the Citrus Stem Cell and Anti Aging Serums. I love this one as well!
100% Pure also offers an excellent serum that is simply called Vitamin C Serum. This is another company that offers products that I use and love because they are super clean and effective.
Another way to get some vitamin C into your skin topically is through a clay mask that I have been using lately from Alitura Naturals. It comes in a powder form that you mix with apple cider vinegar. It may not smell great but it definitely gets results. This mask contains 10% vitamin C, so it is like getting a spa treatment at home. Your skin is very pink afterward from the increased circulation, but when that subsides you are glowing!
A few more words about topical vitamin C….some people find it irritating when applied topically. I have never had a problem with the serums I listed, but if you tend to be sensitive do a patch test. Vitamin C does not have a long shelf life, so when you get one of these serums go ahead and use it daily!
So, can using vitamin C for better skin help you feel happy, healthy and hot? Of course it can…especially if you are using it inside and out!
You will be happy eating delicious food and pampering yourself with natural products that are healthy for your skin. And with that gorgeous, glowing skin, you’ll be very hot!
