with a new iPhone 7 Plus. It’s almost as big as my head. But I love it.
Here’s the thing with iPhones (or Samsung Galaxies, or your smart phone of choice)…they can actually help you stay happy, healthy and hot. Or they can totally waste your time. It all depends on how you use them.
I ❤️ Instagram, and it can be a great source of inspiration. Here are some of my fave accounts:
Chrisy Patterson (@enjoy.daily.fitness ) is adorable and has the most amazing abs. She gives quick workout ideas, many of which you can do at home, and some easy, healthy recipes. Love her!
Another account I love is @primallyinspired, by my friend Kelly Winters. She posts great recipes and skin care DIY ideas. All fun and easy!
If you are into inspirational quotes and gorgeous pics, @mindbodygreen is a great account to follow. Lots of vegan whole food ideas here too.
And of course, you need to check out my Instagram account, @resnickelizabeth! I’ve just started posting quick videos, and there’s content on Instagram that never makes it to the happy, healthy and hot website.
I love walking, and when I can’t walk with a friend (miss you Sheri!) I enjoy listening to podcasts. I can learn something new, be entertained, and stay in shape…total win-win!
There are so many great podcasts out there. If you’re looking for something health related, I like Balanced Bites, hosted by Diane Sanfilippo and Liz Wolfe. I have listened to Diane and Liz for years. They banter back and forth while answering questions sent in by listeners. There are hundreds of episodes in the archives, and many have a specific theme, so you can look for the ones that will be the most helpful.
Another one I enjoy is the Primal Blueprint Podcast. Elle Russ and Brad Kearns interview authors, doctors and other interesting people. Like me! Here’s a link to my chat with Elle…she is so cool and fun to talk to.
Primal Blueprint Podcast Episode #138
Sometimes I listen to recorded books while I am walking with an app called Hoopla. I know some people love Audible. My books tend to be health related or motivational, but anything that you enjoy while you are out moving your body is totally worth a listen.
And then of course there’s iTunes. Put together some upbeat playlists to keep you energized while you run, walk, workout, or just do stuff around the house. I can’t get enough of Bruno Mars’ latest single, 24K Magic. I also have a lot of “girl power” songs on my playlist…Roar by Katy Perry, Confident by Demi Lovato, and Express Yourself by Madonna. Never gets old!
Another feature I find super helpful is the clock. If you are sitting down to work, set a timer or alarm to remind yourself to stand up and take a quick break. Sometimes I just do 10 quick squats every time I get up.
There are tons of apps available to track your fitness and nutrition, but I’m pretty old school…I prefer to just jot stuff down in a journal or use the notes section of my phone.
It’s easy to get sucked in and spend way too much time on social media. But for the most part, my ridiculously large phone is a great tool to keep me on track.
So, can your iPhone really help you feel happy, healthy and hot? Of course it can.
You’ll be happy if you are entertained while you’re working out, and inspired by what you see on Instagram. You can get lots of tips for staying healthy with easy recipes and quick workout ideas. And of course this all helps you stay fit and have an amazing body… very hot!
Let me know how you’re using your iPhone to stay happy, healthy and hot!

FWIW: Love your blog!
I *love* my iPhone. 🙂 (though I have a 6s because my old 5c was dying and I couldn’t wait for the 7…) I am working on the podcast-listening thing, but I have a collection of songs that I put on shuffle to go walking (almost) every day for 30 minutes. Back when I counted calories (before Whole30), I used the Lose It! app to manage my food consumption and keep track of exercise. Now I have a Fitbit Alta that has been the 2nd most important factor in my weight loss, in that it forces me to get up every hour to walk and keeps track of my steps. (Haven’t quite worked up to 10000 yet, but I was *so* sedentary before it!) I’m considering a guided meditation app to help with stress, too.

Hey Pat, great to hear from you and so glad you like hhh! Great to hear how the Fitbit is working for you. I know people that absolutely love them. Love the reminder to get up and move. You mentioned the Fitbit was the 2nd most important factor in your weight loss….what was the first? And songs are just as good as a podcast…whatever gets you motivated to move. I listen to music in the car all the time, so sometimes when I walk I want a change.

The first most important factor was doing a Whole 30! I heard a lot about it and got the book out of the library (to see if it was something I wanted to do), and about a 3rd of the way in I knew it made So Much Sense! I bought the book, bought “It Starts With Food” for the scientific grounding, and off I went! I’ve lost 45 lbs so far and have another 40 to go . . . have gone down 3 pants sizes so far (!) and feel better than I ever have! (and discovered that I cannot eat high-level butter croissants anymore….learning about what my body can tolerate and not tolerate has been a revelation! I do want to be more focused on what I can and can’t eat.)

So happy for you Pat! Losing 45 pounds is quite an accomplishment. I love the Whole30 and I think “It Starts With Food” gives such a great explanation of how everything works. The Primal Blueprint’s 21 day program is great too, as is Eat Fat, Get Thin by Mark Hyman. All of them get you back to eating real food and eliminating crap. Once you learn the basics it’s a really easy way of life! Keep me posted with how you are doing. Pretty much any recipe I post is Primal/Paleo. Most fit in with the Whole30, although I do use stevia in my blended coffee and tea drinks.
