can leave their mark on a girl’s teeth. Not pretty.
A few months ago, I told you how I keep my teeth white with activated charcoal. If you missed it, here’s the post…
Whiter teeth without grief
Activated charcoal does an amazing job. White Strips had worked for me in the past, but eventually made my teeth very sensitive. Plus I have no idea what they are made of! I switched to activated charcoal four years ago and haven’t looked back.
And everyone I know who is brushing with charcoal has been pleased with the results, so it’s not just me.
But here’s the thing with opening those activated charcoal capsules…they make a total mess. When I open one it sprays everywhere…the sink, the counter, even the sleeves of my bathrobe.
What if there was a better way?
I first heard about My Magic Mud from my friend Beth.
My Magic Mud is a whitening tooth powder. The main ingredient is activated charcoal, so I knew it had to work. The other ingredients that add to the magic are Calcium Bentonite Clay, Orange Peel Extract, and Organic Mint Extract. Doesn’t get much cleaner than that.
So what makes My Magic Mud better than just pulling open an activated charcoal capsule?
Well, the bentonite clay, for one thing. Bentonite is a potent detoxifier that can be used internally and externally. I’m thinking that adding it to the charcoal is giving it a little boost.
The orange peel and mint extracts add a subtle hint of flavor. Not at all overpowering, but better than the plain charcoal.
And the best part of all…My Magic Mud is not as messy!
Don’t get me wrong…you’ll still need to wipe out the sink when you’re done. But it’s way better than opening those damn charcoal capsules.
My Magic Mud comes in a plastic jar with detailed instructions. Read them before hand…it will make the whole process go much more smoothly.
Better yet, watch the video on their website. It gives the same detailed instructions set to the tune of “Ice, Ice Baby.” I’m not kidding you. It’s called “Mud, Mud Baby.”
It comes with a cute little scoop that you dip in to get some of the powder, then pour into your mouth…they suggest under your tongue.
After that, just brush for 2 minutes with a soft brush. Remember to buy a cheap toothbrush just for this! Don’t trash the Sonicare! They even give detailed instructions for the rinsing process, to avoid as much mess as possible.
According to the company’s website, you should brush with the toothpowder once a day for best results. I find my teeth stay very white just using it once or twice a week, but I would do it every day until you see the results you want.
So of course you are wondering, can My Magic Mud help you feel happy, healthy and hot?
If you appreciate early ’90s music, the video on the My Magic Mud website will make you happy. The ingredients are very pure and will keep your mouth healthy. And we all know, a bright white smile is very hot!
Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear from you…have you tried activated charcoal to whiten your teeth?

Wow, that sounds good. I’m trying to be super careful of my teeth since having a wisdom tooth out the other week (only trouble I have ever had has been with wisdom teeth!). I will see if it’s available in the UK.
I definitely enjoy, coffee, occasional red wine, dark chocolate and berries. I know they can all stain my teeth.

Hey Tanya! It’s not fair that all those good things can stain your teeth. My Magic Mud is really effective, but if you can’t get it in the UK you will do great with activated charcoal capsules. Just be really careful opening them up. Try using it once a day for a week or so, and then you can taper off. I always try to use charcoal at least once a week.

is this safe for kids as well?
Elizabeth Resnick says
Hi Arlene, great question! The ingredients are extremely safe…certainly better than your typical tooth whitening strips. But it would be extremely messy depending on the age of the kid. I would actually recommend the toothpaste by My Magic Mud. I reviewed this in a more recent post, called “Black pleather leggings with a black cowl neck sweater and black suede booties…” The toothpaste has the activated charcoal and bentonite clay mixed with coconut oil and some other very safe ingredients. I would consider this much safer than a typical fluoride toothpaste, since fluoride can be pretty toxic when swallowed.
