3 Influential Words you Need to Stop Saying
3 influential words you need to stop saying in order to step into the next level you..and what to say instead.
Words are so powerful. And sometimes a simple change can make a big difference.
Here are three things that you are probably saying on the regular (I know I was!) that are holding you back. Try these simple switches and see what a difference it can make!
Sorry
Most of us are saying this WAY to much. As women we tend to apologize for every little thing, even things that are totally not our fault. Sure, there are times we need to apologize. But many of use are using this as a default.
A great substitute for “I’m sorry” is “Thank you!” For example, instead of “I’m sorry I’m so emotional” say “Thank you for listening.” I work part time as a bartender. When I am really busy, and people have to wait a few minutes, I say “Thank you for your patience” instead of “I’m sorry you had to wait.”
“Thank you” is so much more powerful!
Should
This is a word that can be associated with expectations and guilt. Should is a heavy, downer word. “I really should go to the gym…go grocery shopping…go to bed.”
Replace “should” with “could.” “Could” is full of possibilities, not pressure. Saying those same things listed above (for example, “I could go to the gym”) suddenly sound much more positive.
I can’t
Try replacing “I can’t” with “How can I?” and you’ll start thinking creatively and outside of the box. This is how you make shit happen. Instead of saying “I can’t meditate…I don’t have time,” say “How can I find the time to meditate?” and stay open to the possibilities. Maybe you can get up earlier. Maybe you can start with five minutes!
This phrase is often attached to money. Replace “I can’t afford that” with “How can I afford that?”
