Beating Sugar Cravings this Halloween
Newsflash: Halloween doesn’t have to be scary..I’m going to teach you 5 Tips for Beating Sugar Cravings.
It’s that time of year…you can’t walk into the store without seeing giant bags of little snack size bars. Halloween is just the beginning…it seems we are bombarded by sugar all the way through Easter.
But there’s no need to be scared…
Here are my top five tips for beating sugar cravings:
Make sure you are consuming plenty of quality protein and healthy fats. Protein and fat keep you satiated much longer than carbs do.
Getting enough fat helps to regulate the production of leptin and ghrelin, the hormones that control hunger and satiety.
Getting enough sleep will make a big difference too. Cravings hit a lot harder when you are sleep deprived. Studies have proven this, and I definitely find it to be true in my own personal experience. When we consume sugar, our bodies are using this as energy.
Don’t bring it into the house!
Seriously, don’t buy the giant bag of snack sized bars if you can’t resist them. It may look cute to have a big jar of seasonal candy sitting out on the counter, but you’re not going to feel so cute if you eat it all!
Enjoy other seasonal flavors, like crisp apples or butternut squash. Fall is also a great time to drag out the crock pot and make a big batch of soup, or to roast a whole chicken and have enough for several meals.
And finally, my last tip. This one might surprise you!
Eat the damn candy!
Not all the candy. But if there is that one thing that you absolutely love then go ahead and treat yourself. For me it’s a big Hershey bar with almonds, which totally brings back memories of trick or treating as a little girl. When I see one of these, I cant resist!
Buy what you really want, and take the time to savor it mindfully.
And then move on. No guilt. No regrets.
