chocolate is an important part of my life.
But is loving chocolate such a bad thing?
Of course not…it’s all about balance!
eliz new choc post
My life is filled with green drinks, fresh veggies, avocado oil and pastured meats.  And chocolate…sometimes every day.
Cacao, the main ingredient in chocolate, is loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols which can reduce the risk of chronic diseases.  It also fights inflammation and is a good source of magnesium.
In addition, eating chocolate increases levels of serotonin in the brain.  Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps improve mood, sleep and anxiety levels.  And the theobromine found in chocolate is known to increase energy.  Sign me up!
Chocolate has even been linked to skin health.  Back in 2006 a study showed increases in skin thickness and hydration with long term consumption of cocoa that was high in flavonols.  It was also shown to offer some protection against sun damage.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not telling you to go eat a chocolate bar, put on a bikini, and lay out in the sun all day.  (Although that does sound pretty appealing right now…anyone want to join me?)  I’m just pointing out that chocolate is not such a bad thing.
So how can you satisfy a chocolate craving and stay happy, healthy and hot?
Here are a few ideas:
🍫   Buy high quality dark chocolate and just eat a few squares.  The higher the percentage of cacao, the greater the benefits.  You want to go with 70% or above.  The chocolate I am holding in the pic has 72% cacao, but I have become a chocolate badass and actually enjoy the really bitter stuff, like the 90%.
🍫   Something else I do sometimes is have some nut butter (cashew butter is my fave!) with a few chocolate chips sprinkled on top.  I’ll just put this in a little bowl and either eat with a spoon or dip some apple slices.  The protein and fat make this a nice little snack that will hold you for awhile.  Watch your portion size…a serving of nut butter is two tablespoons, and maybe do a tablespoon of chocolate chips.  Not saying you have to measure, just don’t go crazy!
🍫   If you are craving something baked, try my black bean brownie recipe.  Yes, it sounds crazy, but no one can ever guess the secret ingredient of these brownies that are also gluten free and dairy free.  Here’s the link (it’s a very old post…ignore the poor lighting!)
You’ll never guess what I made…
🍫   And if you’re craving a chocolate shake, try the Chocolate Coconut Collagen Fuel from Primal Kitchen…can’t say enough nice things about this stuff!  It has a decadent chocolate taste with a hint of coconut, and is loaded with collagen protein and healthy fats to support gorgeous skin and a fit body.  Scroll down for a free shipping code!
So, can you enjoy some chocolate and feel happy, healthy and hot?  Hell yeah…I sure do!
You’ll be happy eating chocolate…not only does it taste great, you’re getting that serotonin!  High quality chocolate supports healthy skin, and if you’re combining it with protein like collagen and some healthy fat you’re on your way to a better body too.  And with that firm, healthy skin and fit body you’ll definitely be hot!
