I just returned from two very warm but enjoyable days in NYC, and have more travel coming up in the next few weeks. Love to travel, don’t want to feel like crap when I get home. Here’s the rundown on what I did:
On Wednesday, my morning started the way it always does at home…coffee blended with Kerrygold unsalted butter, Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil, Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides and cinnamon while I have a little quiet time. This makes me feel super energized and holds me for hours.
On the road, I ate something I don’t think I’ve had in years…a convenience store egg sandwich. It wasn’t the worst thing…just two eggs and extra bacon. Didn’t eat the roll. Normally I’m a total egg snob, but I made an exception. For my central PA friends, this took place at the new Sheetz on Route 39 heading out towards Hershey.
One of the many things I love about New York is all the great places you can get salads made to order. This is something we are definitely lacking in Central PA. So at PAX I had mixed greens with avocado, mixed olives and diced tomato. No dressing needed with the olives and avocado. Fresh veggies totally hit the spot after a relatively heavy breakfast, and I wasn’t feeling the need for any more protein.
After an active afternoon walking all over Times Square, a little pick me up was in order. An Americano with a splash of milk from the lobby cafe and some dark chocolate from the mini bar hit the spot. Thank you to the nice guy at the Andaz who didn’t charge for the Americanos!
Dinner was late and I wasn’t super hungry. Ordered blackened salmon with spinach and broccoli. (Subbed broccoli for the mashed potatoes that were on the menu. You need to speak up to get what you want. This doesn’t just pertain to restaurants.)
I like to keep my morning routine when I travel, but without making myself crazy. So I took my travel bottle of Bullet Proof Brain Octane Oil and a stick pack of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides down to the lobby with me when I grabbed some coffee. Also added a splash of half and half. Too much dairy makes me break out, but I don’t freak out if it’s the only thing available when I travel.
My plan was to hold out until lunch, but by 10:30 I was starving and grabbed a little pack of nuts at the nearest Starbucks. (I feel like there is one every 20 feet.) Didn’t want to pass out from hunger at the giant Forever 21 in Times Square! No one would even find me.
Natsumi, which is pretty much the best sushi place ever, did not disappoint for lunch. Their seaweed salad is my absolute favorite. An order of that and two spicy tuna handrolls, no rice, was perfect. It’s on 50th between 7th and 8th. Get there early if you don’t have a reservation.
I just might have had more of that dark chocolate from the mini bar as we were packing up. You know, for the antioxidants!
Dinner on the way home was a quick stop at Chipotle. Here’s what I get every time…a protein (this time was carnitas), medium salsa, guac and lettuce. Yes, Chipotle, I know the guac is extra. I do not bother with the rice ever, and only get beans if I am totally starving. Beans are a good source of plant based protein, I’m just kind of over them after 30+ years as a vegetarian.
Even for a quick overnight, I pack my favorite toiletries. Annmarie Skincare’s Body Essentials Travel Kit is awesome…love the coconut body oil!
Telluride Glow is another travel essential. This facial oil is the perfect multi-tasker. You can use it for oil cleansing and then apply it as a moisturizer. I work the excess into the dry ends of my hair.
I’m really picky about what I use on my hair, so I buy the travel sizes of my fave shampoo and conditioner (Honey and Virgin Coconut) from 100% Pure and refill them when I get home so I’m ready for the next adventure!
Oh, and in honor of #assandabs summer, I did some squats each time I brushed my teeth. A few crunches and planks on the floor. But that was pretty much it. Plenty of walking.
Feeling amazing when you travel is all about balance…I really never have grains, especially wheat, because it’s not worth feeling crappy and bloated. But I’ll have some dairy if it’s worthwhile. I’m not saying you need to do what I do…just figure out what works for your body.
So can you stay happy, healthy and hot in NYC? Of course…you can stay happy, healthy and hot anywhere you travel this summer!
You will be happy having an adventure wherever you are. Ordering carefully and packing a few essential food and toiletry items will help you stay healthy and fit. And with that fit body and glowing skin you’ll be hot indeed!
