from Paleo f(x) in Austin, TX. Which was pretty much the best thing ever. If you’ve been following me on Instagram @resnickelizabeth you’ve had a little taste of it already.
I have so much to share there’s no way it will fit in one blog post…you know I like to keep things short and sweet!
It was a total thrill to hear amazing speakers like Dr. David Perlmutter, Robb Wolf, Josh Axe, Jordan Rubin, Mark Sisson and Dave Asprey. (Def need more women on this list next year…hey Paleo f(x), I’m available!)
And I had so much fun connecting in person with people and companies that I’ve mentioned here on happy, healthy and hot: Liz from Primal Blueprint, Lindsey from Guiltless Goodies, Andy and Courtney from Alitura Naturals, Tony from Kasandrinos Olive Oil, and Ramzy from Dry Farm Wines.
After being bombarded by fascinating info for three straight days, there were a few common themes:
🍜 Collagen and Bone Broth
OK, I have been telling you this from day one. Seriously, my very first blog post ever, which was probably read by a total of seven people, gave a recipe using collagen peptides. And I’ve been shouting it from the rooftops ever since, because I notice a visible difference in my skin from using them every day.
So many of the speakers mentioned collagen and bone broth as something that we could all benefit from. I’m always talking about it for it’s beauty benefits, but it goes a lot deeper than that. Collagen and bone broth strengthen connective tissues throughout the body, and may even help prevent some athletic injuries. Bone broth contains minerals that you won’t find in straight collagen peptides, so it’s great to have both in your diet.
I use collagen peptides every day in my coffee, and also enjoy the bars and Collagen Fuel from Primal Kitchen. You can make your own bone broth if you have the time, or make things easy on yourself and order from Kettle & Fire. Their bone broth is properly prepared from the bones of pastured animals, is shelf stable until opened, and tastes as good as homemade (possibly better).
🍆 Veggies
This is something else I am always preaching. Eat your veggies. Look for ways to fit them in to your daily life. Start your day with a green drink. Grab a raw carrot from the fridge. Roast a ton of veggies on Sunday so you have them throughout the week.
Veggies are loaded with polyphenols, which are micronutrients found in many whole foods that protect your body from oxidative damage. This slows down the aging process. Isn’t that what we’re trying to do here? It’s pretty much what happy, healthy and hot is all about. Dave Asprey, Dr. Perlmutter and Josh Axe all talked about how crucial polyphenols are for our overall health.
Other foods that are high in polyphenols are berries, coffee (more about that), tea, and herbs and spices. All things we love! Several of the speakers suggested using herbs and spices much more liberally. Throw some cinnamon in your coffee, and blend a chunk of fresh ginger in your green drink. Once you get in the habit it’s easy.
☕️ Coffee
It’s no secret that I love my coffee. And it can have some major health benefits if you’re doing it right.
First, it’s a great source of polyphenols. And caffeine in moderate amounts can help you stay focused and alert, as well as burn fat. It’s really important that the coffee be organic and mold free. I’m going to be experimenting with some coffees that are new to me and reporting back.
Remember, when I’m talking about coffee I’m not talking about a grande Mocha Frappucino from Starbucks. That is a complete sugar bomb that is doing nothing for you. But you can make your coffee taste like a treat by throwing it in the blender with some coconut oil, a scoop of collagen peptides, and a little stevia. Maybe a dash of cinnamon for some extra polyphenols! Sooo easy and delicious, and gives your skin, hair, nails and energy levels a boost.
I’ll be reporting more of what I learned and saw at Paleo f(x)…I’m completely fired up and more passionate than ever about helping you look and feel amazing.
But for now, can collagen, veggies and coffee help you feel happy, healthy and hot? Hell yeah!
You’ll be happy eating delicious veggies and enjoying your coffee. Consuming these items can truly help you stay healthy and even lose weight. You’ll have firm, glowing skin and a beautiful body….very hot!
