We’ve all been there at one time or another…that dry, dull skin after a trip to the beach.
Summer has been fun, but maybe a little too much fun. Two beach trips and lots of pool time. Even though I protected my skin I feel dry and a little less glow-y.
Here’s what I’m doing to help the situation:
Two words: exfoliate and moisturize.
Gentle exfoliation is great to help dry summer skin.
There are two products that I like to use on my face…you can use one or the other, or both.
Annmarie Gianni’s Ayurvedic Facial Scrub is awesome. It is a powder that can be mixed with either water or cleanser in the palm of your hand, and then rubbed all over your face and neck before rinsing off. I usually do this in the shower once or twice a week.
I love the product, but the packaging is a little awkward…it comes in a glass jar and it’s hard to get the right amount out without spilling. I use a plastic spoon to get out what I need. Here’s a post I wrote about the scrub:
Pores no more!
Something else I like for exfoliation is the Konjac Charcoal Sponge by 100% Pure. This is a natural sponge that is combined with charcoal which helps draw impurities from the skin. The sponge is used wet, with or without cleanser. It is very gentle but leaves my skin nice and smooth. I just did a post on this a week or two ago:
The last time I wandered into Sephora
For my body, my favorite way to exfoliate is a dry brush. It is also great to stimulate your lymphatic and circulatory systems. All good!
I resisted getting a dry brush for the longest time. (Thank you, Jen, for persisting!) Now I’m hooked. If you try it, you’ll love it. Right, Shannon?

Why I dry brush (and why you should too!)
If I still haven’t convinced you to get a dry brush, scrubs are great too. 100% Pure makes a body scrub. I haven’t tried it yet, but the ingredients are amazing and it comes in Vanilla Bean, my fave.
So what about moisture?
For my face, I really love to use an oil. Sounds crazy, but you just need to pat a few drops on and it will absorb so quickly. I am loving everything about Alpine Pure Oil by Telluride Glow…it smells amazing and works wonders on my skin, hair and cuticles. Here is my recent review:
Magical multi-tasker
I also love Annmarie Gianni’s Anti Aging Serum, especially in the morning. If you are really dry, pat some oil on top. And Annmarie Gianni’s facial oils are great too…I have used the Herbal and the Anti Aging oils.
If you’re not ready to hop on the oil bandwagon, 100% Pure has a good selection of facial moisturizers that come in more of a lotion/cream form. I have tried the Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream and love it. I’ve used it all over my face and it gives a nice base for makeup. The price is really reasonable and it smells like freshly baked cookies. Which works for me.
For my body, coconut oil is always a winner. I love to slather it all over after I get out of the shower, and then sit around in my robe until it absorbs. My skin feels soft all day. (Plus I have an excuse to sit around in a robe. Win-win.)
I also love the Vanilla Bean Nourishing Body Cream from 100% Pure, or for extra dry skin, their Body Butter. You will have super soft skin and smell like a cupcake…another win-win! These are also less greasy than using the coconut oil, so you can get dressed right away.
So there you have it…some quick and easy tips to restore your skin after too much summer fun.
Can exfoliating and moisturizing help you feel happy, healthy and hot? Yes indeed!
You’ll be happy using such wonderful products. All of the companies I’ve mentioned here are also very socially responsible…that makes me happy too! The ingredients are plant derived and incredibly pure. No toxic chemicals or endocrine disrupters to affect your health. And the end result is healthy, glowing skin…very hot!

This is timely! We have had lots of trips to the beach this summer as we’ve had a hot August (UK summers are very variable!). I usually find I don’t need body lotion/oil since going primal and having all those good fats, but the sun, sand and salt can be a little rough on my skin and hair.
And thank you for reminding me to restart dry brushing, I used to do it every morning. I will go and order myself a new brush. I also like having hot and cold contrast showers too, great after exercise for the muscles and skin.

Sometimes I get out of the dry brush habit too…happy this inspired you! And I haven’t tried the hot/cold shower thing. Have heard it is wonderful
for you, but I’m kind of a baby about water temperature! Now I’m getting more curious….might have to try that!
