here’s how I’m staying happy and healthy!
Of course I’m happy because I’m on vacation. But I’m managing to stay healthy here in Cape May too.
Let’s start with the food…
If you’ve been following this blog, you know how I feel about morning routines. I love getting my day off to a healthy start. Even though I’m sleeping in a bit, I’m starting every day with some Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides stirred into my coffee. This stuff is so important for healthy skin, hair and nails that I don’t ever want to be without it.
I’m also drinking my lemon water. The vitamin C supports my immune system and helps my body produce more collagen. So easy to throw a lemon squeezer in your bag!
I packed my Nutribullet (love my Vitamix but too cumbersome to travel with). I had great intentions of buying local, organic greens and making a green drink every morning. But now it’s day five and that hasn’t actually happened. I did pack some Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Greens, so I’ve used those to sneak in some extra greens.
By doing this every morning I’m getting my day off to a great start and relaxing a bit on everything else.
I’ve been enjoying going out to breakfast most mornings. I usually get an omelet loaded with veggies, and ask for fruit instead of the potatoes and toast. On Saturday morning, my omelet from McGlade’s had crabmeat, avocado, and alfalfa sprouts, with melon on the side. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Here’s another delicious meal…
Hidden underneath the lobster were clams, mussels, shrimp, a potato and some corn. Soooo good. And yes, I dipped everything in the melted butter.
I’ve also had amazing tacos from Key West Tacos…minus the cheese since dairy bothers me. And some great entree salads. Last night was a Santa Fe Turkey salad at The Ugly Mug…romaine, cherry tomatoes, tons of fresh roasted turkey, avocado and bacon. I left off the croutons and never even used the dressing…with the avocado and bacon there was plenty of flavor. Oh, and some fried clams to start. Why not?!
I refuse to cook when I’m on vacation, but it’s so easy to run to a local grocery store (in this case the Acme) to get some fresh fruit and veggies to snack on. There are raw organic carrots in the fridge (read Cheap and easy to find out why I eat one every day) and all kinds of cut up fruit.
When I travel I usually do a mini workout every morning, but I haven’t even bothered this time. Between bike rides, walking and playing paddle ball on the beach I’m getting plenty of activity. Oh, and walking the 100 steps up to the Beast of the East waterslide. Ten times. That was a workout. Thanks Lauren!
I’ve also been trying out some new happy, healthy and hot products for you. Can’t wait to write up a review of the awesome multi-purpose beauty oil I’ve been testing. Stay tuned!
Oh, and if you missed it, here’s a post from a few weeks ago about what to pack for the beach:
Beauty and the beach
So, the message here is don’t make yourself crazy. Do a little planning before a trip so you can be prepared. Figure out which healthy habits are non-negotiable for you. I can’t do without my collagen peptides and lemon water. Make a quick run to the local grocery store when you arrive so you have some healthy options in the fridge. Try to make good choices when you go out to eat, but have fun and enjoy your food. You’re on vacation!
So, can you stay happy, healthy and hot at the Jersey Shore (or any beach trip?) Of course you can! Vacation time makes everyone happy. Grab some fruit and fresh veggies at the grocery store (and actually eat them) and you can stay pretty healthy. Get a little safe sun with Raw Elements sunscreen and a healthy glow from your outdoor activities, and you’ll be very hot! Have fun!

Such delicious food! I would think the benefits of enjoying being on holiday are pretty good in themselves. We live not that far from the coast (Norfolk, UK) and have had some delicious food at various beach cafes, including a yummy lobster salad. Have a lovely holiday (vacation)!

Thanks Tanya! And I love the word holiday instead of vacation. Sounds much more festive. Lobster salad sounds wonderful!
