Pink salt, that is! Not that I didn’t love the movie. But if I had to pick a favorite John Hughes movie I’d go with Breakfast Club. It had the best soundtrack.
But about the pretty pink salt. I’ve mentioned this salt as an ingredient in a number of my posts, but I’ve never really explained why I use it.
Here’s the thing….salt tastes good.
And our bodies need it. Salt is essential for life. But why use this pretty pink salt? What’s wrong with regular table salt?
Table salt is 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% added chemicals, including moisture absorbents and compounds that make it easier to pour. It is dried at crazy high temperatures that actually change the chemical structure. It is lacking the trace minerals our bodies need to function at their best.
So what about sea salt? In my opinion, it’s a better option that regular table salt, since it has trace amounts of many important minerals. Sea salt is made from dried sea water. The problem is that our oceans are becoming more and more polluted, so sea salt is not as pure as it used to be.
Himalayan pink salt (you might also see it referred to as Himalayan crystal salt) is said to be the purest salt in the world. It is formed from marine fossil deposits that were made during the Jurassic era. The salt is mined by hand and sourced from pure areas without environmental pollutants. It contains at least 84 trace elements in their natural form where they are easily absorbed by the body. Unlike table salt, which can cause your tissues to retain excess fluid, Himalayan salt helps regulate the water content throughout your body. It is also said to help you absorb nutrients, balance pH, eliminate toxins, and increase circulation.
I read somewhere that Himalayan pink salt has a perfect crystalline structure when viewed under a microscope, unlike table salt and sea salt. That’s nice to know, but I have much better things to do with my time. (Like reminiscing about 1980’s teen movies.)
I don’t need to tell you how to use Himalayan pink salt Just use it the same way you would use any other salt. One of my favorite ways is to make organic popcorn with coconut oil, and sprinkle with Himalayan salt. Sooooo good! I use it on my eggs, roasted veggies, and to season any meat or fish that I happen to be cooking. I have even been known to bring my own little shaker of it when I travel. Why use crappy table salt when you can be getting valuable trace minerals?
There are other ways to benefit from Himalayan salt, including taking salt baths, cooking on salt slabs, sitting in salt rooms, and using salt lamps. It can also be used as an ingredient in some DIY skincare. I’ve had experience with some of those ideas, but I’ll save them for another post!
If you’re still using the canister of Morton salt with the little girl and the umbrella, don’t freak out. Next time you are out shopping, consider an upgrade to Himalayan pink salt. It’s an easy way to make sure your body is getting the trace minerals it needs. Yes, the pink salt costs more. But really, how often do you need to buy salt? Exactly.
You can find Himalayan pink salt at better grocery stores, like Wegmans or Whole Foods. I also have it in my amazon store: Himalayan pink salt
So, can Himalayan pink salt help you feel happy, healthy and hot? Sure! You’ll be happy just because it’s so pretty, plus it makes your food taste great. I’ve already told you about tons of health benefits. And those trace minerals keep your skin and hair healthy, which is very hot! Oh, and I’d love to know…what’s your favorite John Hughes movie?

Hey Elizabeth, great name (my daughter’s name). I use a brand called Real Salt I believe it is called, not sure if it is as good as these brands, I’ll check them out.
I also add something called Concentrace which has a lot of minerals but mainly salt to my daily 64 ounce jug of filtered water, a whole lemon squeezed into it, a tablespoon of ACV, a scoop of green powder, and some Oolong tea. I sip it throughout the day and always finish it by late afternoon with more fluids to come LOL. BTW, I also eat the exact same brand of sardines you do!
I don’t make my own bone broth, I buy a brand called Pacific, but it has 0% fat so I’m wondering if it is doing that much good. Do you have an opinion? Don’t have the time or inclination to make my own.

Wow, George, you are doing great! I have heard Real Salt is very comparable to Himalayan but I have not actually used it. I wouldn’t worry about the lack of fat in the broth, since you are really consuming it for the collagen and the minerals. It may not be doing the same thing as the stuff you make, but it can’t hurt. And LOVE those sardines. Every time I try another brand go back to those. And your daily drink sounds great! Thanks for checking in!
