I love all of Justin Bieber’s new singles…

and “Cold Water” is no exception.  Justin, you can be my life line!

But while I love listening to “Cold Water,” I rarely drink it.

I’ve always preferred my water (and most other beverages) at room temperature.

It’s just a personal preference, but it turns out drinking your beverages at room temp might have some advantages.

taking my room temperature water on the road

According to Ayurveda, water is best taken at room temperature, or even slightly warm. This is supposed to be healthier for our digestive and lymphatic systems.

I just find it more comfortable, but I am definitely able to drink more water over the course of the day if it’s not ice cold.

When you first wake up, a big glass of water (preferably with a squeeze of lemon) is great to replenish what you lost while sleeping.  But after that, it is best to sip throughout the day. I used to wait until I was dying of thirst and chug an entire 16 ounce bottle.  When you sip throughout the day, your body is better able to absorb the water on a cellular level.

Many years ago, I got great advice from a chiropractor who told me “don’t drink while you eat.”  I was having some digestive issues, and he told me that while it was fine to have a few sips of water with a meal, too much was actually diluting my stomach acid and making it harder to digest my meal.

That advice truly helped me.  Ultimately it took more than that to clear up my digestive issues…I had to remove some foods (grains and most dairy) that were inflammatory for me.  But the water trick helped, and 25 years later I am still drink very little with my meals.  I feel much better drinking between meals.

And why should we be drinking water anyway?  By weight, water makes up more than 2/3 of our body.  It makes sense that we function best when the proper balance is maintained.  Staying hydrated is important to every system of your body.

Water is vital to the health of your skin.  When you are dehydrated, your blood can actually pull water from your skin cells, affecting the look of your skin.  Over time, your skin become less resilient and will wrinkle more easily.

Staying hydrated also helps to maintain a healthy weight.  People sometimes mistake thirst for hunger, and end up eating when all they really needed was some water.

And if you’ve been following happy, healthy and hot you know you can make your room temperature water even better with a squeeze of lemon!  Here’s a recent post:

Some things never get old…

I like to carry my room temperature lemon water in my cute daniel glass.  Water tastes better in glass, and it has a wide mouth so I can drop the lemon half right in the bottle after I squeeze it.  Then when I refill throughout the day I still get a hint of lemon!  Plus daniel comes in lots of cute colors.  Why not have a water bottle that makes you smile?

Listen, when it’s all said and done, the most important thing is that you are staying hydrated.  So if you are happier with ice cold water, be my guest!  Either way, try to replenish with a big glass in the am, then continue to sip throughout the day.

Can drinking room temperature water keep you happy, healthy and hot?  Of course it can!  Drink it out of a cute bottle with a squeeze of lemon while listening to Justin…even better!

Being well hydrated just feels good, so you’ll be happy.  Water is essential to the functioning of every cell in your body, and truly helps you stay healthy.  And the glowing skin and gorgeous body that result are very hot!

  1. Very interesting, I tend to drink water as it comes. So if it’s straight from the filter it’s probably chilled, but I am quite well known for leaving glasses of water around the house! So, quite often the water is room temperature.

I had heard that drinking it cold, is not so good and also, not with meals. I definitely sip throughout the day and easily drink my 8 or more glasses of water.

  2. Great that you are sipping throughout the day Tanya!! And even if you are drinking it cold, you’re still staying hydrated:) I find I don’t remember to drink as much now that it is getting colder outside.
